By simple playful exercises we are going to discover new ways of using your voice and reconnect its coordination with the body.

At the workshop, participants will gain basic vocal improvisation skills and experience working with modern vocal techniques (frying vocals, ingressive vocals, plateau sound etc).

duration 2.5 hours.

The number of participants is limited by 18 - 20 people.

LABORATORY “VOICE/BODY/SPACE”

The goal of this laboratory is to research relations between visual and audial. Body and voice are understood here both as an instrument and an object of research. Special attention will be paid to the concept of space - physical and, in a broader sense, as a form shaping component. The laboratory consists of a practical workshop and a creative part, in which the participants will be invited to develop the final performance. How the sound affects the image, the concept of soundscape, the temporal parameter of space, psychoacoustics and dramaturgy of space, as well as the creation of scores - all this is the knowledge that you can learn and integrate practically during two weeks of the laboratory.

2020 Online Voice Lab Berlin "Do It Yourself: VOICE” series of vocal workshops

"DIY Voice" workshop is about research on vocal practice through improvisation.

- How does observation of breathing help relieve tension?

- Why is regularity and continuity important?

The workshop will show the possibilities of voice as a music instrument used for your own purposes. My approach is to look at the territory of unknown as potential and fruitful in all aspects for research practice. The place of experiment begins there. By learning various vocal techniques we will search for uniqueness of our own voice and learn it possibilities. If you want to go to research together, you are welcome to join. Singing experience and vocal range do not matter here.

“Do it yourself” means that no one but you can tell what kind of singer you are.

“Do it yourself” means that you decide what sound you want to make in this moment- lets not culture, tradition, family, friends, partners tell us or dictate us how and what we shall sing.

“Do it yourself” means everyone has unique instrument with a lot of capacities. We just let it happen by itself, we try not to disturb the creativity to find its own way in our voice.

We will enjoy every sound we can make, without judging and building hierarchy. We welcome so called “ugliness”, observing what the mistake can barrows, and will try to welcome every noise, uneveness or scratch of our voice with joy.

With this workshop I want to share my experience of improvisation and vocal techniques I learned from not only singers, but choreographs, theatre directors and composers.
